Social connection.
Mental and physical health.
The ability to express oneself.

These are key areas of wellbeing — and ones where group singing has been shown to have a big impact.

More than 25 years of research has shown the potential for group singing to produce a wide range of positive outcomes, from combatting stress and loneliness to improving speech, boosting lung health and more. SingWell’s research is illuminating how to activate this potential.

As we deepen scientific understanding of the impacts of group singing, we’re also digging into the specific factors behind them — from the sociobiological processes at play to practical variations in how group singing is conducted.

We are working with partners across Canada to help people start and run choirs in ways that target these factors. Through evidence-based training and practical resources, we are working to make more singing groups available — and equipped to benefit people living with communication challenges and other barriers to wellbeing.

Your generosity can drive research and practice to help people tap into the power of group singing.

Group singing is an accessible, cost-effective, and easily scalable intervention that fosters wellbeing holistically. As we work to build understanding of and access to this powerful intervention, we rely on donations that augment our base research funding.

"At this point I don't feel like my Parkinson's defines me as much as it used to. Now that I've been singing with the group for a while ... I feel that I'm also a singer who is part of a vibrant community."
